Rooted in the skate and surf culture of Southern California and drawing from the traditional art forms of pre-Colombian Mexico, the figurative and landscape paintings of Andrew Mark Muñoz explore the layers of memory and history that create the self. Returning to images from childhood, Munoz seeks the essential, magical truth of the past. The colors in Muñoz’s original paintings recall a vivid dream, while the detailed patterns and textures woven throughout each element demand continued re-examination and re-discovery. A California native, Muñoz lives and works in Santa Monica.
